"This great sea is considered our country's western border. This is an unfortunate mistake that we have to uproot. In terms of community, economics and politics, the Mediterranean should be seen not as its border, but as our country's continuation". (David Ben-Gurion, 1932)
What is Tel – Aviv's Western border?
The boulevards of Tel-Aviv serve as an urban outline, an important open public space and recreational area in which a large part of the urban existence is concentrated. Originally these boulevards were designed, among others, in order to bring some nature into the city and to connect the city to the sea. The construction of boulevards into the sea will continue the urban sequence and expand the city borders. At "Tel- Aviv of the sea" I'm keeping the Tel- Aviv lifestyle and examining how the city evolves and changes from an encounter with the sea. In addition, The Marine Boulevard combines the qualities of the white city with the "Ayalon City" (The towers' city). At the project, the towers are carrying the city and serve as its anchor.
The Marine Boulevard retains the proportions of the land boulevards, the street is characterized by a delicate game of glimpses and encounters with nature. As part of coping with the forces of nature, the project includes closed and cozy areas sheltering from the wind, shaded areas and covered areas to protect from the rain and sun.
This project offers another option for an urban expansion. While the land resources are limited and the population grows, there is a need to examine alternatives to the current way, alternatives that will know to learn from the past and provide solutions for the future.
