Nahal Sorek flows from the Judaean Hills to the coastal plain, surrounded by vast biodiversity.

As the project focuses on an urban interaction with the river – I chose to focus on Yavne and its interaction with Nahal Sorek.

Rivers flowing through cities in Israel often become a site of waste disposal, or a nuisance.

Yavne disregards its river - the city's residents are unaware of it.

Today the city inhabits around 40,000 residents, with plans to triple the population and expand towards the south-west, away from the river.

Residents admit that the city lacks workplaces, parks, and cultural and recreational centers.

The planning proposal aims to develop the city towards the north-east, with Nahal Sorek functioning as an urban park around which, the center of Yavne will develop.

Surrounding the river will be a boardwalk with a commercial area, and above it residences, parks, and public buildings.

A plan for a community center where Nahal Sorek and Nahal Yavne meet, which includes an open auditorium, active in the summer and flooded in the winter, a greenhouse, nature clubs, and art studios. The building includes a library with a green rooftop and a second wing with studios for dancing, rehearsals, and music, and finally an auditorium overlooking the river.

The building moves gradually from the river – nature, to the city - culture.
