Jaffa, a historic city which underwent numerous transformations, embodies many complexities within itself, including a wide array of cultural images. Examining the array of its oriental urban images, allows us to easily define its charged physical space.

After mapping Jaffa’s numerous personas, I found that the overlapping areas are located between the residential areas and Yeffet Street, which acts as a kind of a funnel. Examining the characteristics of the inner parts of the residential areas, feeding the funnel, I discovered many gaps. In my project, I try to bridge conceptually, via a system of public spaces, called "Local Urban Rooms”, a space for residents that represents the unique character of its surroundings, all the while, keeping its unique essence.

The selected focal point is the intersection of Yeffet Street, Yehuda Margoza Street and Yehuda HaYamit Street. Among these main roads, an intermediate space is created, which connects the fabrics of the adjacent neighborhoods. In this compound, the architecture induces a hierarchical relationship of privacy between the inner parts and courtyards and outer streets. The compound renews the street surfaces and routes the circular traffic through the different levels of the different streets, using the public spaces. In addition to developing the domain in the courtyards, the construction in the compound includes public structures and hybrid residential areas that bridges the different levels and produce a defining partition to the street.
