Since the invention of the cars, the cities are designed and built to provide the drivers and their vehicles' needs, getting a respectable place in the urban environment and planning. The priority given to the car in an urban planning often prevents an active urban space, including a meaningful street.

The city of Ashdod, was chosen as a case study in this project. Ashdod is designed and divided into 17 administrative districts. In the center of each district, there is an inner center, and this distinction of districts, prevents the existence of one city center. The districts are separated by large traffic roads that prevent outside foot walk experience. The long distances between districts, minority access from the street to the blocks, massive and high separation between the blocks, are preventing people dwell in the public space. All that, in addition to the zoning feature of the city, causes the dysfunction of the streets. In historical perspective, Ashdod's port is the origin of the city. These days there is a complete separation between the city and the port. This project attempts to reformulate the concept of the street in order to reconnect the separated parts of the city, and offers a plan to cancel the existing zoning. The structure's main function is an educational center that combines dorms, commerce and culture functions, which produce a unique new urban space.
