The project studies modern urban planning and attempts to understand where the architectural phenomenon of "top-down" is ending, and where the idea of "bottom-up" is starting. Bottom-up is being generated by social and community initiatives.

I chose to look at the area between Yaffo Road and the Old Ottman train trail in Tel-Aviv which is considered to be a borderline between the South and the North part of the city. This specific Zone between Neve-Tzedek (north of the Ottoman train) and Florentine (south of Jaffa Road) is acting as a transfer zone between a more legitimate and illegitimate parts of the city.

The train trail lies 8 meters lower than the level of the street and accentuates the borderline between the North and South. However, I strongly feel that this man-made ditch can reunite the two parts of the city.

By "pulling" it towards the south neighborhood of Florentine, it naturally creates a flow of ways and green courtyards that will connect the intensity of Yaffo to the serenity of Neve-Tzedek. Within this maze of ways and courtyards, the project will organize and dictate a series of "free interpretations" voids that give freedom to the people of the city to use them as they wish. These voids can grow horizontally and vertically depending on the needs of the users. The voids and the people together are redefining the whole area with unique urban-generators that help in the creation of community and local identities.
