Atlit is a village in Hof Ha'Carmel region, rich with cultural sites, nature and heritage of different times and periods, which sadly do not receive the recognition in our collective consciousness. In addition, there are consciousness and physical walls that disconnect the different parts of Atlit. Therefore the project addresses the question: How can architecture be used as a tool for exposure, formation and indication of identity.
First, the project offers tracks crossing through the "memory-points" selectivity chosen- points of Zionism, culture and population, and focusing on three linear axis. Further, significant sequence was selected. It consists of Ha'Meyasdim St., train station, industrial area and the salt-ponds on the way to the sea. The project integrate the memory-points in site-specific way and enables continuity of events. The Sequence, examines the role of the architect in the endowment of memory and identity of a place.
On a practical-programmatic note, on the first connection point of the route, I designed a synagogue and a city-hall, matter and spirit, as an urban monument on a local scale. The buildings' architecture is mirrored in its relation to their environment, typologically and materially. Foothills – I placed commercial buildings, which function as an urban-theater, overlooking the heightened railway, which now becomes the new gate to Atlit.
